I have worked in social media for over 10 years and I have intimately followed its evolution. In the beginning we shared intimate stories about our real life in text, image and sometimes video form. It was magic because for the first time we could stay up to date and feel involved in the lives of almost everyone that mattered to us.

Over time social media has become less personal and more profitable. In our opinion social media have broken its promise of being social. Its content is distracting en masse, its following people outside the realm of our real world its no longer about connection but arguments with strangers.

At the same time we are using social media more than ever scrolling through endless content at the cost of lifetime. And we want to challenge if users feel more social, more connected to places, people and subjects they care most about.

And while social media isn’t social anymore its still has its place in the online ecosystem, but as the platforms chase optimization they are all morphing into becoming the same short video form platform.

We want to change that in a big way.

PopBy aims to make reality the core foundation of the experience, of visibility, of reach and of communicating with others.

While social media has allowed anyone to talk to anyone, to see anything from anywhere, PopBy requires users to visit the places they want to interact with and the content within those places.

This has several benefits:

  • It enables people to communicate with anyone sharing the same place and content previously shared on that place allowing for hyperlocal content incredibly relevant to people there
  • It provides trust that any content you see has been posted by someone that have or are visiting that place, same with any reply you receive
  • It keeps distractions and unwanted interactions from people not sharing the reality of users
  • It increases the value of reality and people and places around our users

Our mission is to make the world more discoverable, meaningful and connected for everyone. We want to create friendships among neighbours, love between people sharing the same reality that would never organically cross path, safety for users sharing a location by creating a real sense of community.

We hope that being able to communicate through places we all uniquely care about will make it easier for anyone to connect with someone else sharing the same reality, here is how it works & why we think the world needs PopBy.
